Pray Psalm 121 with us: Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño to visit and pray with Dixie and Caldor fire survivors October 22-24

Would you be willing to pause what you are doing this Friday, October 22nd at noon, reflect on Psalm 121 and join Bishop Minerva Carcaño and others in prayer for the Dixie and Caldor fire victims?  It is at this time that the Episcopal team will be in Greenville, gathered to pray at the site where the Greenville Church, Thrift Shop, Fellowship Hall, Education Building and Parsonage once stood.  It, of course, is also near the homes that were lost by most of the Greenville Church members.  It is here that we will gather to seek God’s sustaining grace, hear the stories of members and friends and stand with one another in prayer and support.

Bishop Carcaño will be touring the Dixie and Caldor Fire areas on Friday, October 22nd and Saturday October 23rd.  She will be accompanied by Conference Lay Leader, Micheal Pope; the Volunteer in Missions Coordinator, Steve Elliott;  the Executive Director for Connectional Ministries, Jorge Domingues; the Director for Communications, Selby Ewing; and District Superintendent, Blake Busick.  Circuit Leader, Becky Stockdale will be greeting the team in Portola Friday morning and guiding their tour through the Dixie Fire area.  They will be making stops in Quincy and Taylorsville where they will be met by Pastor Karen Watson who will share the work and witness of the Taylorsville community during this disaster.  They expect to be in Greenville by noon to connect with Lay Minister Mele Vacapuna, members of the Greenville congregation, as well as members from the circuit churches, and share in a service of prayer and remembrance.

A lunch will be served at the Chester UMC by 1.30 p.m. where there will be opportunity for more sharing of experiences and conversations.   Pastor Charles White will then guide the episcopal team to Susanville where they will learn of the disaster response happening there.

The team will conclude the day in Kings Beach in preparation for their visit to the Caldor fire area the next day.

On Saturday the team will travel to the Placerville Federated Church and meet Pastor Laura Barnes.  After having a blessing of the donated Fire Buckets they will tour the burned areas nearby.  The Rev. Dr. Mary Westfall, Executive Presbyter of the North Central California Presbytery, will join them.  They will then travel to Cameron Park, Foothills UMC to be received by Pastor Andrew Davis and members of the congregation.

On Sunday the Bishop will travel back up the mountain and preach at the Quincy United Methodist church.

Please be in thought and prayer about all these communities this weekend as we consider all the ways we can support each other and pray for God’s healing and hope.  Especially, you are invited to pause this Friday at noon from whatever you are doing and from wherever you are and join us in prayer.  We are the body of Christ together connected in the Spirit by love, compassion and solidarity.

Psalm 121
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.
