On Sunday March 12, more than 100 people gathered at First San Jose UMC to witness the welcome of 16 new members and the celebration of four baptisms. People of all ages celebrated communion, including six children who were so happy to participate.
First San Jose membership includes 164 children and youth. "This is the beginning of a new Methodist movement for the Hispanic/Latino people in the city of San Jose, California and all for the glory of God," said Pastor Gerardo Vasquez. "The Holy Spirit is working very hard in Downtown San Jose"
First San Jose is busy all week-long nurturing members and serving the community. On Wednesday we serve 308 people including children, youth, and the elderly with home pantries. The program is called Open pantry. Thursdays, the church hosts close to 50 people for a worship service and dinner prepared by Pastor Gerardo. Fridays, Pastor Gerardo teaches Methodist doctrine to children and youth and every Saturday members of the church gather outside a local Home Depot and serve 100's of day laborers breakfast, coffee and sandwiches.
On Tuesdays you'll find Pastor Gerardo on Facebook live with a message that draws audiences from Mexico, Guatemala and Spain.
"All this is the work of God," shared Pastor Gerardo. "I have a lot of energy that only comes from God, and I cannot stop doing ministry.
