2023 National Workshop on Christian Unity took place in Milwaukee, WI from May 8 - 11.
The theme for the 2023 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, “Do Good; Seek Justice (Isaiah 1:17),” served as theme for NWCU 2023. Theologian-in-Residence the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers led those gathered in considering the theme under three sub-topics: listening to the biblical call to justice, lamenting the lack of justice in our world, and living into justice in our communities. Each day Workshop participants joined in table conversations around the praxis of justice facilitated by the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center.
People came together as ecumenists to take up the key question posed by the 2023 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: “How can we live our unity as Christians so as to confront the evils and injustices of our time?” We pray that the “work” of this year’s Workshop might increase understandings of the relationship between unity and justice and renew the desire and commitment to do good and seek justice for all of God’s people.
The National Workshop on Christian Unity has advanced unity and reconciliation among various Christian communities for more than 50 years. The Workshop continues to be the only gathering of its kind at a national level in the world. The annual event brings together ecumenical representatives, ecumenists, and interested members from all churches who share one faith, one baptism in Jesus Christ.
