In the "before-times", Fair Oaks UMC designated the 1st Sunday of the month as Outreach Sunday. Sunrise Christian Food Ministry, a food bank serving Sacramento suburbs, was one of the ministries included in Outreach Sunday. Congregants were encouraged to bring their food donations on the 1st Sunday and volunteers would load up their cars after church to transport the donations to the food bank. Unfortunately, outreach giving had ceased at the same time that in-person worship services ceased. Fortunately, Fair Oaks UMC has creative volunteers who organized a socially distanced, low contact, drive-thru collection for Sunrise Christian Food Ministry so we can continue our outreach ministries. On September 12, we collected a FULL truck load of groceries and $325 in cash for the food bank. It was a great time to interact with members and catch up on what is going on with family and friends, all while wearing masks of course!. A huge thank you to Ben Couch for bringing his beautiful red truck and willing hands, along with Helena Hurst and Karlene Brown. We took the collection to the food bank and they were so appreciative. The need from this year to the same time last year has doubled. We look forward to scheduling another drive-thru collection day in the near future.
