Peace With Justice Grant Applications due Feb. 15

2/6/2020

Up to $2000.00 is available to UMC churches and organizations for projects that support ADVOCACY AND JUSTICE ACTIONS. We, who call ourselves Methodists, are called to works of justice, to discover the reasons why the homeless are homeless, why the working poor don’t make a living wage, to stand with those who have no voice in our system, to address underlying causes for injustice and to make our world a better place.  Projects must address social justice and advocacy for public policy.  Projects must advocate for systemic change as well as provide acts of mercy.
The following Cal-Nev churches and organizations have received grants in recent years.

  1. California Church Impact, for the Online Guide/Tool Kits and Workshops for churches to help ex-felons expunge their records in order to them to become employed.

  2. Los Altos UMC to train workshop leaders and conduct workshops teaching people how to recognize signs of potential acts of personal violence and how to respond to reduce the risk of personal violence.

  3. CA House at UC Davis to create a food pantry for food-insecure students and to advocate for programs to address homelessness and food insecurity among students.
  4. Salinas First UMC for an interfaith celebration of and advocacy for diversity.
  5. Sierra Service Project for inclusion of advocacy training in their programs.
  6. Bethany UMC to provide legal and housing assistance to asylum seekers in San Francisco and to advocate for justice for asylum seekers.

How can the Advocacy & Justice Committee help  your congregation put together a justice program in your community or around the world?
