The California-Nevada Conference will have the privilege of commissioning a new United Methodist missionary at Annual Conference Session this year.
Hesed Soriano Lim is one of eight new missionaries who were celebrated at a May 15 service of blessing as they completed their orientation and training through the General Board of Global Ministries. She and another missionary being commissioned this summer will join the teaching staff of Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary in Pietermaritzburg, Kwazulu/Natal, South Africa, as part of the “everywhere to everywhere” community of UM missionaries.
Lim holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work and comes from a long line of Methodists in the Philippines. She is the daughter of the retired Bishop Leo A. Soriano and Dania A. Soriano, of The United Methodist Church. Her husband is the Rev. Rogelio Ypil Lim, and her brother is a missionary doctor and a pastor of The United Methodist Church. Both of her grandfathers were United Methodist church planters in rural areas of Mindanao, Philippines.
Lim has been deeply involved in the church since childhood.
“I grew up surrounded by church workers,” she says, “and I think this contributes to my desire to serve through mission. It runs in my blood: This eagerness to serve the people, not just in the church but also in the community.”
Lim is a member of Cathedral United Methodist Church, Davao City, in the East Mindanao Philippines Annual Conference. She has worked in the government, at Kidapawan Doctors Hospital in North Cotabato, and for nonprofit organizations – including working at Kapatiran-Kaunlaran Foundation, Inc. in Manila, a social service institution related to street children for girls that isa longtime Global Ministries’ partner. (Read her bio here.)
At Seth Mokitimi Seminary Lim will serve in practical ministry, including pastoral care. Her husband, Rogelio, and their young daughter, Kyria, will join her in South Africa. You may support her work through Advance # 3022507
