Cal-Nevada Keeps Its Commitments to Mission and Ministry

1/31/2019

Following a successful stewardship campaign, the California-Nevada Annual Conference has been able to meet its General Church and Western Jurisdiction commitments for the second year in a row.

Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño made the announcement this week at the Gathering of the Orders retreat, then she and Kristin Stoneking taped a message to the conference.

The conference was able to reach 100% of apportionment giving for 2018 based on a combination of factors, according to Diane Knudsen, Executive Director of Finance and Administration.

“Of course, General Church apportionment payments come down to the wire in January just because our churches need a little time to calculate their final tithe payment,” she said. “Thankfully, we had another increase in tithe giving in 2018. This increase, combined with donations from our ‘Fulfilling Our Commitments’ campaign and use of an operating fund surplus, helped us to achieve the goal of 100% payments again this year. It was truly a team effort by many parts of our annual conference.”

The achievement is even more significant, perhaps, when viewed with a larger lens: California-Nevada is one of only 26 annual conferences that paid full apportionments for 2018 – a decrease from the past two years, and one that follows four years of record-setting apportionment giving.
