Cabinet Retreats in Yosemite
Our Cabinet went on retreat on August 3rd-6th for spiritual formation and team building, and to think strategically as we prepare for our work for the coming conference year. We retreated to Yosemite National Park and were reminded of our Creator God who has blessed us with the magnificent beauty of Creation.
We also visited Mariposa United Methodist Church and had the opportunity to consult with Pastor Allison Byerley about the Detwiler fire. We are so grateful for Pastor Byerley’s leadership and that of our members at the Mariposa church. They have joined other community and state leaders in responding to the needs of those affected by this fire, and have done so with a compassionate perseverance that is making a difference and that I believe will shape the future of this community. During our visit, we were able to share with Pastor Byerley that as a conference we have requested $10,000 from UMCOR to support them.
On Sunday, August 6th we worshiped with New Community United Methodist Church in Oakhurst, CA. We were blessed by their great hospitality, wonderful worship, and a challenging sermon from Pastor Gayle Basten. New Community church models for all of us what it means to be a church of personal and social holiness.
Our hearts were truly full as we traveled home to serve Christ Jesus with the great and faithful leaders of our conference. Your bishop and cabinet are ready to joyfully step into this new annual conference year with all of you! God is with us all!
