United Methodist Missionaries

There are eight missionaries from the California-Nevada Annual Conference in active service around the world: Joseph Chan (Cambodia)Marilyn Sovann Chan (Cambodia)Intern Emma Kerr-Carpenter (Brazil)George Martzen (Singapore)Katherine Parker (Nepal) (at right in photo above), Carol Partridge (Macedonia)Brenda Vaca (United States) and Claudia Genung Yamamoto (Japan).

United Methodist local congregations and others support missionaries through "covenant relationships." The CA-NV Annual Conference has a goal of $100,000 annually in second-mile giving as its share of the cost of missionaries. Local churches participate by establishing a "covenant relationship" with a particular missionary, which includes a pledge of $5 per member per year (up to $2500 per missionary). Missionaries typically work in the field for three years before returning for a brief period to visit supporting churches or prospective supporting churches. Covenant relationship churches have priority in scheduling visits.

United Methodists support missionaries "From Everywhere to Everywhere." Other missionaries supported in this annual conference include Grace Choi, Jae Choi, Ken Cruz, Paul Jeffrey, Jane Kies, Larry Kies, Janet Lahr Lewis, Cindy Moon, Gary Moon, and Helen Sheperd.
