We Have a Place for Them

Registration is available online for nomination to the Youth and Young Adult Delegation for the 2019 Annual Conference Session (ACS) of the California-Nevada Conference of The United Methodist Church.
 
Information
The youth and young adults’ inclusion and participation in the Annual Conference Session is a radical way to make The United Methodist Church the faith community where young people can grow as disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
 
Lay Equalization Membership (Standing Rules, Division III. Conference Membership, 2018 Conference Journal and Yearbook)
e. The Young Adult Delegation shall have allotted to it three (3) additional lay members from each District. Young adult voting membership shall be elected by the following process: There shall be a young adult delegation of not more than forty-four (44) persons, at least four (4) of whom shall come from each District and all of whom shall be seated within the Bar of the Conference. The method of selection of these young adult delegates shall be established each year by the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry with approval of the Commission on the Annual Conference Session. Four (4) young adult members, one (1) basic member and up to three (3) lay equalization members, shall be elected from each District as full voting members of the Annual Conference Session. The Conference Committee shall provide training and preparation for these delegates. The young adult delegation may elect from its membership two alternate young adult members from each District under the supervision of the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry. Alternates and remaining delegates shall have voice but no vote.
 
f. The Conference Council on Youth Ministry shall have allotted to it six (6) additional lay members from each district. Youth voting membership shall be elected by the following process: There shall be a youth delegation, all of whom shall be seated within the Bar of the Conference. The number and method of selection of these youth delegates shall be established each year by the Conference Council on Youth Ministry with approval of the Commission on the Annual Conference Session. The Conference Council on Youth Ministry shall provide training and preparation for these delegates. Seven (7) youth members, one (1) basic and up to six (6) lay equalization members, shall be elected from each District as full voting members of the Annual Conference Session. The youth delegation may elect from its membership one alternate youth member from each District under the supervision of the Conference Council on Youth Ministry. Alternates and remaining delegates shall have voice, but not vote.
 
The Method of Selection
Nomination Process as Approved by the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry
1.The nomination process for the youth and young adult delegation to serve as voting members and alternate members of ACS shall be by online registration set up by the Office of the Director of Camping and Young People’s Ministry and the Project Coordinator. The nomination by registration shall end on May 13, 2019.
 
2.The nomination process will be conducted in collaboration with the five district superintendents, who will work with their circuit leaders and pastors to promote youth and young adult participation in the Annual Conference Session to youth and young adults in local churches. District Superintendents, circuit leaders, and pastors may help to identify and encourage interested youth and young adults to be nominated by registration. There are some local churches that have elected their youth or young adults as lay members to the Annual Conference Session. This registration/nomination process is for those who have not been elected by their local churches as lay members to ACS.
 
3.The criteria for acceptance into nomination are available in the registration application online.
 
4.The deadline for nomination by registration online is May 13, 2019.
 
5. Selection of the nominations for election to delegation will be conducted by the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry by May 18th. The nominees will be forwarded to the district superintendents and election will be conducted at the district conferences with the support and assistance of the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry in the implementation of the selection process.
 
  1. Youth Delegation to the Annual Conference Session. Our Conference Committee on Young People's Ministry aims to select and help elect 7 voting members and 1 alternate from each district for a total of 35 voting delegates and 5 alternates from the 5 districts.
  2. Young adult delegation to the Annual Conference Session. Our CCYP aims to select and help elect 4 voting delegates and 1 alternate from each district for a total of 20 voting delegates and 5 alternates. 

Election to Delegation
1.The election of the youth and young adult delegation to the Annual Conference Session will be conducted by the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry in collaboration with the five district superintendents at the district conferences or at any meeting or gathering called for by the district superintendents. The election process also could be conducted by a face-to-face/in-person meeting or by virtual meeting.
 
2.Representation through diversity by race, ethnicity, gender, and inclusion will be prioritized very highly.
 
3.The youth and young adultS who registered for nomination will be informed of the election to serve as voting members or alternate members.
 
4.Training of the elected youth and young adult voting delegates and alternates will be provided by the Conference Committee on Young People’s Ministry before the Annual Conference Session. The schedule of the training will be announced and communicated once they have been determined.
