Thank you, Cal-Nev congregations, for your generous support of and participation in the Disaster Response Ministry of our Conference. What a difference you made in so many lives!
During 2022, we responded to six disasters: the Oak Fire, McKinney Fire, Mill Fire, Mosquito Fire, Forks Fire and the Humboldt Earthquake. Each of these included direct survivor aid. We assisted nearly 850 households with immediate aid of about $95,000. In addition, local church volunteers and Conference Early Response Teams helped survivors with cleanup, debris removal, and short-term repairs.
Our Conference also participated in six long-term recoveries during the year. These included: the Camp Fire, Caldor Fire, Bear Fire, Dixie Fire, Oak Fire and McKinney Fire. Our Conference helped with 50 survivor long-term recoveries totaling $307,000 funded by UMCOR, an American Red Cross Grant and the Conference Disaster Response Fund. This funding primarily assisted survivors with establishing a new living situation.
It was quite a year – many grateful recipients of our assistance. Now on to 2023.
Since Christmas we have deployed five Early Response Teams and staffed three local assistance centers related to the Humboldt Earthquake and the widespread winter flooding. We will be continuing our financial and hands-on assistance with long-term recoveries in 2023. And, with your support, we will be ready for what comes our way!
