Youth DirectorJob Description

To develop, lead and expand a dynamic youth program focused on middle school and high school youth (12-18) inspiring them to grow in the Christian faith through fellowship, study, questioning, celebration and service. This is part-time (20 hours a week) position.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Attend Church on Sundays

· Attend other worship services and events as required or needed

· Recommend and work within the annual budget for the youth program

· Develop a ministry program that includes middle & high school youth fellowship, bible studies, life groups, special events, camps, mission trips and leadership development that emphasize discipleship, evangelism and outreach

· Recruit and work with youth counselors, volunteers and parents and manage the youth program with pastoral advice as necessary

· Encourage youth participation in weekly church gatherings and special events through worship, music and other church activities

· Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as needed (i.e. Church Council)


Other Responsibilities

· Implement United Methodists “Safe Sanctuary” requirement, including training counselors and volunteers on “Safe Sanctuary” practices


Required Qualifications

· Minimum age 23 (Safe Sanctuaries requirement)

· Minimum AA Degree or higher

· Possess a personal relationship and mature faith grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ

· Minimum two years working with youth in a religious environment or other recognized social settings

· Strong oral and written communication skills possessing computer literacy and proficiency

· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

· High level of trust and confidentially required

· Must be a self-starter who takes initiative in relationships and project events

· Ability to collaboratively work with a wide variety of students, stakeholders and personalities

· Valid California Drivers Licensed and proof of insurance


Desired Qualifications

· Knowledgeable and familiar with African American culture in the areas of religion, music and overall history

· Fluent in Spanish

· First Aid/CPR certified

· Training in suicide prevention, anti-bullying, youth leadership, substance abuse

· Social Media Skills (Facebook, Twitter, Google)

· Comfortable speaking in front of diverse audiences
