Church Business Administrator


In partnership with the pastor and other staff, the Church Business Administrator helps create a sustainable and efficient structure to support the mission and ministry of Christ Church United Methodist. This person anticipates the needs of the office, exercises leadership with the board of trustees, and provides proactive support in congregational life. The administrator oversees matters of finance and facilities management, and works with the pastor to develop innovative strategies to grow the church both in its outreach and number. Responsibilities of this position include: o Assist with stewardship campaign o Recruit, train and oversee office volunteers o Serve as purchasing agent for worship, office and staff supplies and oversee office needs including maintenance of office equipment o Schedule meetings for pastor and others using Doodle scheduler, and coordinate with all items on the master calendar o Weekly maintain and update master calendar of building use and other church functions (including but not limited to the Nursery School, Harvest for the Hungry, 12 step groups, etc.) o Email church members regarding special church events and meetings. o Serve as a liaison with trustees to provide for the upkeep of all church facilities and occasionally attend their meetings o Meet several times a month with the pastor and other staff as needed. o Maintain an orderly file of all pertinent church documents (legal, fiscal, etc.) o Serve as primary staff contact for payroll o Create and maintain church website; update weekly o Create PowerPoint for Sunday worship and other services, and communicate with PowerPoint volunteers o Create weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter and other in-house communications as well as external ads and press releases in a timely manner o Develop and implement welcome procedure for visitors o Maintain employee personnel files/paperwork o Maintain records of payments for renters of church facilities o Manage membership records o Other duties as deemed necessary by the pastor Skills needed for this position include: o Ability to handle multiple tasks and groups and see tasks through to completion o Ability to work independently o Ability to delegate tasks (like follow-up calls and copy-making) to volunteers o Good communication skills for making requests, working out projects, receiving and offering feedback o Creativity in problem-solving o Graphic arts capability o Ability to create and maintain an effective website o Facility with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google docs, bookkeeping program, as well as with computers and copiers o Familiarity with advertising outlets and event calendars to publicize events o Familiarity with church life, Christianity and The United Methodist Church ideal, but not required This is a 20-hour a week position.
