Concord United Methodist Church welcomes all who seek God, a spiritual home, and wish to share their gifts. The organist / pianist will reflect CUMC’s focus on message, music, mission, outreach, and inclusion. The person we hire will be an enthusiastic and positive musician who collaborates with our choir director in leading the Chancel Choir and the Contemporary Ensemble at Sunday Services and selected community events. CUMC has an active and supportive Choir Board made up of volunteer choir members. We also have a Community Orchestra that accompanies on occasion.
POSITION: Salaried Exempt; Part-Time (average 8 hours/week); benefits as identified in the Employee Policies and Guidelines handbook; salary range $18-20k/year, depending on qualifications and experience. A degree in organ or piano music is preferred but not required.
REPORTS TO: Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent organ and piano skills; command of one instrument, with facility in the other; knowledge of standard organ and classical piano repertoire; improvisatory skills a plus. Experience with Christian service-playing; ability to play both traditional hymnody and contemporary Christian songs with proficiency and sensitivity; an understanding of the ministry of music. Excellent accompanying skills; proficient sight-reading; ability to occasionally play from a lead sheet on contemporary music when fully realized keyboard/organ scores are not available. The ability to play a variety of different musical styles. Ability to accompany soloists and small groups during services and special events.
The organ is an Allen system 305 2-manual organ, installed in 1981, and there are 2 grand pianos in the sanctuary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Primary Accompanist for two Sunday Services, at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
2. Accompany the Congregation and New Life Ensemble on piano at the 9:00 a.m. Contemporary Service, with a 45-minute Ensemble rehearsal immediately prior at 8:15 a.m.
