JOB OPENING ELK GROVE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH YOUTH DIRECTOR POSITION To apply please send cover letter and resume to email@example.com before November 12,2018 (Adopted by Staff Parish Relations Committee on 10/23/2018) Job Description JOB FUNCTION • Walk with youth in their development as maturing adults and as followers of Christ. • To connect our youth ministry with other community/church youth ministries and help youth establish a faith journey. • To recruit and train youth to serve as leaders. • To recruit and train adults to work with youth. • Develop caring relationships with the parents/guardians of youth. • To develop service and mission opportunities for youth and to develop outreach to youth who do not have a faith home. • The average work week is 20 hours per week with additional time expected for regular lock-ins, at least 1 weeklong mission/service trip, and several all-day events per year, participation with annual Church Camp, participation with bi-annual Confirmation Camp DUTIES • Plan and implement a comprehensive faith based youth program that includes learning, study, and discussion; games and activities; service projects, fellowship and special events that are congruent with the congregations Mission and Core Values. • Be in communication with Youth Sunday School Teachers and Christian Education committee. • Develop a strategy for reaching out to youth and communicating with parents, guardians and caregivers (e.g. parent meetings). • Pursue Continuing Education (in consultation with Pastor and SPRC) • Attend worship and be involved in the life of Elk Grove United Methodist Church. • Regularly consult with Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee about program goals, aspirations, concerns, guidance and ministry implementation. • Comply with Safe Sanctuary policies; and establish clear professional boundaries with youth and parents/guardians • Organize fundraisers to supplement youth program budget • Submit weekly attendance and monthly newsletter article to church office • Maintain youth’s web page and social media (may be delegated) • Create yearly activity calendar in collaboration with youth and Pastor. • Keep up to date records for youth (contact info, permission slips, release forms etc.) QUALIFICATIONS • Experience working with youth (persons between grade 6 and 12). • Relate to and communicate well with diverse individuals. • Knowledge and affirmation of Progressive Christian tradition. • Affirmation of, and ability to articulate and engage, EGUMC’s mission and core values. See Below. • Be a self-starter, excellent communicator and well organized • College graduate or equivalent. Be at least 25 years old. • Pass a background check to the satisfaction of the pastor and SPRC • Understanding of the polity and structure of the United Methodist Church is desired, but not required. PAID SICK LEAVE • Paid Sick Leave will accrue at the rate of 2 Sundays per year and is capped at 4 Sundays per year beginning with employment. • The Youth director is responsible to recruit an appropriate substitute during vacation/sick leave. OTHER Is supervised by and reports to the Pastor. Evaluation is ongoing and performed annually by the Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee, The Youth Director position is a mandated reporter.
