A team of volunteers is being assembled to visit Temple Methodist Church in Nasinu, Fiji near Suva. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the construction of their new worship sanctuary. The building frame is a typical commercial structure of red iron, rebar reinforced, formed concrete and concrete block construction with a metal roof, interior framing and flooring of wood, both rough and finished material.
As of this date in October, latest photos show work on the roof framing. Previous work completed includes a formed concrete retaining wall as the structure is sited into a hill, with the majority of the red iron frame and block walls completed. Projected work for next spring will likely interior wood framing or exterior wall finish work.
Volunteers with carpentry skills and the other essential construction trades are preferred. The trip is self-funded, but fundraising efforts can be undertaken to offset trip expenses. On previous trips to Fiji, this has included local purchase of tools, which are then left with the host church, or materials needed.
The suggested base figure for trip expenses is $2000, which covers air fare, transportation and food; lodging will be provided by the host church.
