First UMC Salinas Neighborhood Services Center

by Pastor Steve Lundin

Six days a week, from 7AM to 1PM, First UMC Salinas, runs a Neighborhood Services Center for the homeless and working poor in the area. Mail service, clothes room, art and computer room, case workers, AA and NA meetings, pastoral care, worship and bible study, once a week health and dental services, but mostly just acceptance and love.
Pastor Steve Lundin says, "This is a place of compassion and acceptance for people who are ignored or feel rejected. It is all about incarnating the love of God."
The place runs on volunteers. Church members, college students, youth and adult work teams, and people who receive services at the church. As many as 80 volunteers a week help keep these services going.
