A Christmas Greeting from Bishop Carcaño

12/25/2019

Today in the town of David
a Savior has been born to you;
he is the Messiah, the Lord.
This will be a sign to you:
You will find a baby wrapped in cloths
and lying in a manger.
- Luke 1:11-12

Beloved Brothers and Sisters,

Blessed Christmas to All!  The Christ Child is born among us!  Glory to God!

The year has been long. Human struggles have persisted. Creation has moaned in despair over its destruction. For too many love, joy and peace have been short-lived. Hope has been hard to catch a glimpse of. This may not be everyone’s experience, but it has been the experience of a great many of God’s children including God’s creatures in the sky, on the earth, in the sea and Mother Nature herself.

But on this glorious day we are reminded that God our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer, never forgets us. Through the birth of a vulnerable baby called Jesus and known as Emmanuel – God with us – we are shown the face and heart of God. We can hold the Christ Child close, feel the warmth and gentleness of his body, hear the sweet sound of his voice and know that he belongs to us and we belong to him. There is no greater gift.

The Christ Child is the gift of God’s faithful promise that the day will come when our hearts will be healed of the brokenness we have known and sometimes caused. When nature in all its intricate beauty and wonder will be restored.  When love, joy and peace will be the norm not the exception, and hope will be the very breath we breathe every morning.

Christmas morn reminds us that even now we can live as those for whom love, joy, peace and hope have come. Let us receive the gift and be grateful!

Your Sister in Christ,

Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño
