Bishop Carcaño in Puerto Rico

Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño is currently in Puerto Rico attending the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico, and visiting hurricane devastated areas, to affirm California-Nevada Conference’s partnership in ministry.
She says, “After facing two category five hurricanes, our brothers and sisters continue to rebuild not only churches but entire communities.”

The General Conference of the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico ordained 13 elders and commissioned eight. Today they had an incredible service in which their appointments were fixed. The churches sent delegations to welcome their new pastors and what incredible love and joy they shared! 7 were appointed to serve in the US. The Methodist Church in Puerto Rico is changing the world!

On the shore in Puerto Rico where Hurricane Maria landed, Ricardo Maldonado has created art work from common things the Caribbean waves took out to sea and is now returning.  He finds it very healing.  Homes and churches are being rebuilt by volunteer work teams like the one from Lakewood UMC in Houston, TX.  Many more teams are needed.  Simple new tin roofs, and rebuilt walls, windows and doors on damaged homes is bringing joy and hope to families. In turn they bless those who have come to help with kind smiles and loving embraces as they say, "Thanks for not forgetting us."
