Troescher Receives Bishop's Award

Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño awarded Dave Troescher from Carson City First UMC in Carson City, Nevada with a 2017 Bishop's Award.  In nominating him, his pastors, the Revs. Rob and Dixie Jennings-Teats wrote:
"Dave Troescher is a life-long United Methodist who has put into practice the mission; 'making disciples to transform the world.'
As Lay Leader, Dave is committed to making Carson City First a vital congregation. He has led the congregation in developing its mission statement and then guided the church through a transformational process and strategic plan. Through Dave’s leadership the congregation has developed a strong small group ministry program focused on mission involving over 225 people in regular small group attendance. Dave is active in his men’s small group, and a couple’s group. Over the years he has led many small groups and is well read in Biblical studies and theology. He meets regularly with the pastors and encourages and supports them in their ministry. He is skilled in conflict resolution and assisted in seeking reconciliation between divided church members.
Through his gift of music, Dave has graced the church with a special tenor voice. With his musical training Dave is a special asset to any choir director as he helps the men’s section learn their parts, read their music, and bring out the best quality in their voices. When the congregation needed to introduce a contemporary worship service, Dave led the traditionalists to accept and even appreciate the driving beat of change. Now, every Sunday Dave sings with the 'Joyful Noise Band' and leads the clapping participation in the contemporary service and then leads the men’s section in the chancel choir during the traditional worship. Dave also sings lead parts in the evening Taize Service. Through his leadership Carson City First has varied and passionate worship.
As a Certified Lay Speaker Dave is a regular in the pulpit. He also is a facilitator and director for Dias Con Christo, a form of Walk to Emmaus in Northern Nevada. He is active in the Kairos prison ministry and has befriended and supported ex-offenders as they reenter society.
Dave has supported our mission with NETworX and the Capital City Circles Initiative. Every year Dave organizes with his mens small group the taking of Champion for Change families to the ACES baseball game in Reno. For many of these families and kids it is their first time to go to a professional baseball game.
Dave has served in many capacities in the church, serving and often chairing such administrative committees as Staff Parish, Finance, and Church Council. Dave uses his vacation every year to faithfully attend the Annual Conference as a Lay Member. He also serves on the Annual Conference Committee on the Episcopacy.
Dave provides the lay leadership that is transforming Carson City First into one of the most dynamic and vital congregations in the Annual Conference."
