LIFT Concert to Benefit Food Pantry at Lake Merritt UMC

March 20, 2014

LIFT Concert, a fundraiser for the Food Pantry at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church (LMUMC), will be held on March 29 at 4 p.m. at the church located at 1330 Lakeshore Avenue. The church is undertaking this concert to ensure the finances of the food pantry have a solid foundation.
The Lake Merritt UMC Food Pantry has been distributing food to people in need in their community for 30 years. Last year they gave out food to 10,817 families, numbering 27,345 individuals, almost double the number of families they served two years ago. In 2013, they were named the Alameda County Community Food Bank Food Pantry Partner of the Year, an award given for their pioneering client choice model.
The lineup of musical groups from the Oakland Community include an ensemble from the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, the World Harmony Chorus, the Oakland Jazz Choir, the Community Women's Orchestra, Stanley Huston, a solo vocalist from LMUMC, and Aeri Lee, a classical pianist from the Chinese Community United Methodist Church. All of these musicians are donating their time and talent. In addition, premiering will be a short film showcasing the work of the food pantry produced by the Berkeley Youth Institute.
