Lake Park UMC Benefit Concert
On March 30 at 3 p.m. Lake Park Church will hold a benefit concert for its ministries. The Young Musician Program (YMP), which was housed at Lake Park this summer, will be performing several pieces from Le Miserables. YMP, originally founded within UC Berkeley's Music Department in 1968 as a summer program for youth from Berkeley and surrounding communities, eventually expanded to a year-round program, featuring individual, group, orchestral, and choral instruction. Musical instruments and all other aspects of the program were provided at no cost to the students and their families. In addition, the SONOS Handbell Ensemble will perform. SONOS, founded in 1990, is well known for their creative handbell music all over the world. The ensemble travels across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Finally there will be three guest artists: Soprano Julia Hunt Nielsen, Mezzo-Soprano Lisa van der Ploeg and Cellist Emil Miland. Admission is free and an opportunity to donate will be given during the concert. The address of the concert is: 281 Santa Clara Avenue, Oakland, CA. For more information, contact the Rev.
