Church Tithing has begun
The New Year is here and church tithing has begun. Diane Knudsen, Conference Treasurer and Director of Administrative Services, reported on tithing results during a February 10 conference call with the Conference Council on Finance (CFA). "Tithes have been received from 113 churches so far, compared with apportionment collections last year at this time from 122 churches," said Knudsen.
Knudsen and Scott Wylie, chair of CFA, will follow up with churches to further encourage tithing on a monthly basis and to see what questions churches still have about the process.
“Many church treasurers and finance committees seem to have taken the first step to applying the spiritual discipline of tithing to their congregational setting," said Knudsen. "We hope all finance committees and congregations will join in this year." Knudsen also reported that over half of the churches in the California-Nevada Conference ended the year paying 100% of their apportionments, about the same number of churches as in the prior year. Total apportionment collections increased from $4.7 million in 2012 to $4.8 million in 2013.
