Uganda School Project Ready to Launch
Chinese Community United Methodist Church has been on an amazing journey of faith for the past five years. In a bold step of faith, their small congregation became a mission partner with Youth and Child Visionary Ministries, a Christian non-profit group in the village of Kumi. Their vision is to serve vulnerable children with educational, spiritual, emotional, and healthcare support.
Plans to build a seven-classroom building moved from initial stages of buying land, to laying a foundation, to the diligent labor of brick-by-brick construction, to finishing work this past year. In the last three months, a separate kitchen was built and a bathroom house is being finished. Excitement is building as we anticipate opening the doors of the school for instruction early next year.
To support this mission, CCUMC extends an invitation to all to attend their 4th Annual Benefit Dinner in Oakland, on Friday, July 26th, at 6:00 PM. Location is the elegant Restaurant Peony, 388 9 Street. While dining on a nine-course Chinese Banquet, you will be transported to the village of Kumi, Uganda, through story and song. You will learn how the amazing power of faith has been transformational and grace-filled.
Proceeds from this year's benefit will support furnishing the school, training staff, and providing scholarships for tuition. Anyone interested in going to Uganda may apply for the VIM trip slated for Feb. 2014. You are also welcome to bring new or used children's books (up to grade 6) to the dinner, and these will be sent to begin a school library in Kumi.
