Wesley Pilgrimage to Immerse Leaders in Traditions of the Wesley Brothers
NASHVILLE, Tenn.– United Methodist clergy and lay leaders will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Christ-centered leadership of John and Charles Wesley this summer during a 10-day Wesley Pilgrimage to England
The 2014 pilgrimage, sponsored by the General Board of Discipleship (GBOD) and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), will begin July 14, said Steven Manskar, Director of Wesleyan Leadership at GBOD.
“As pilgrims, we will seek to grow closer to Christ by walking in the places that shaped John and Charles Wesley and the people called Methodists,” Manskar said.
The pilgrimage will include stops in
• Epworth, to explore Wesley’s birthplace
• Oxford, where the Wesley brothers led the Holy Club
• Bristol, the home of the Methodist societies and class meeting
• London, where both Wesley brothers experienced assurance of salvation and John Wesley built the center of British Methodism
• Salisbury, home to a vital Methodist congregation once served by Francis Asbury
“As pilgrims we will live, eat, and travel together in Christian community,” Manskar said. “This means our days are steeped in sacrament, worship and prayer. It also means that we care for one another as sisters and brothers in Christ. By the end of the 10 days the pilgrims become a tight knit community of friends.”
