Building the Underground Church - Confronting Greed and Violence with Mobilized Love

February 21, 2013

"Building the Underground Church-Confronting Greed and Violence with Mobilized Love" is a workshop presented by Robin Meyers on Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rancho Cordova United Methodist Church, 2101 Zinfandel Drive, Rancho Cordova 95670.

Dr. Meyers ( is a nationally known writer and commentator, a prominent UCC minister, a peace activist, and a tenured professor. He advocates recapturing the spirit of the early church with its emphasis on what Christians do rather than on what they believe. He holds that following Jesus was—and must be again— subversive, in the best sense of the word, "a community that declares its loyalty only to love incarnate, not to Caesar." The church should be defined, now as then, by unqualified inclusion, extravagant generosity, radical dedication to peace and justice, and countercultural compassion for all people and creation. This workshop will explore how we can create that kind of bold church community in today's world.

A $50 donation is suggested and lunch will be provided. CEU credits for United Methodist clergy are pending.
