Clergy Retreat Refreshes Body, Mind, and Spirit

September 13, 2012

The Gathering of the Orders will take place Oct. 2-4, 2012 at Mount Hermon Retreat Center.

By the Rev. Dave Bunje, Retreat Design Team
Imagine Christ's living water gushing up freely in you: Your heart is light with calm confidence. Your gifts are well utilized. Fellow servants team up in transformative mission. You speak with clarity and grace on the issues that bedevil our people, enlisting a response that uplifts the city.
This is not our expectation – in fact, we suffer from discouragement about the prospects – yet this is the promise of the One who poured out all of himself that we might know God's power and living presence.
The Bishop's Gathering of the Orders, Oct. 2-4, is convening on the theme "Living Water Lives in Us," in order that we can be refreshed by the work of Christ among us, fortified to live out the call that beckons us, and warmed by the fellowship of colleagues.
There are three areas of focus in the movement toward wellness:
  1. Body: Engaging in practices and incentives that build physical health.
  2. Mind: Regaining excitement about the gospel call and authenticity in matching ministry with the yearnings of our neighbors.
  3. Spirit: Pursuing balance between the sometimes-unachievable expectations of church members and the vibrancy of our spirits.
The retreat is taking place at Mount Hermon Retreat Center, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Check-in begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2, and the retreat concludes with lunch on Thursday, Oct. 4. Several levels of housing are available when you register at
