Invitation to 9/11 Interfaith Dinner and Prayer Event at Campbell UMC

August 27, 2012

For the last several years, Campbell United Methodist Church (www.campbellunited.org) has hosted both a joint dinner and joint Christian and Muslim prayers on 9/11. This has been an exceedingly important opportunity to develop better understanding between the Christian and Muslim and other faith communities.

This year, it is again our privilege to host both an interfaith dinner and Muslim, Christian, and other prayers on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Dinner will start at 7 p.m., followed by a break at approximately 8 p.m. for Muslim prayers, which will take place on the lawn in the church courtyard and be followed by further prayers and discussion in the church Sanctuary. The evening will conclude by 9:30 p.m.

The event is being co-hosted by the African Fellowship of Campbell UMC and New Creation UMC, which meets on the Campbell campus.

Over the years, this event has grown in size; last year we hosted nearly 200 people. Because we expect a good turnout again, we are asking those who plan to join us for the 9/11 Halal-appropriate dinner (with vegetarian options) to RSVP by Tuesday, Sept. 4. Please do so by contacting Ginny Johnson at ginnyjnsn@aol.com, or by calling the church office at 408.378.3472. (Anyone who wishes to join in the prayer service, but not to join us for dinner, does not need to RSVP.)

We are confident that interfaith efforts to remember 9/11 will move our community forward in a positive way. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening, Sept. 11.
