Grace UMC of San Ramon Hosts Scholar-Led Workshops

August 17, 2012

Sundays, Aug. 26 and Sept. 2, Noon-1:30 p.m.

On two Sundays, Aug. 26 and Sept. 2, Grace United Methodist Church in San Ramon will host the Rev. Dr. Michael Lodahl, professor of Theology and World Religions at Point Loma Nazarene University, for a pair of workshops that are open to everyone.
The workshops are titled, "Renewal in God's Image" – a look at Wesleyan understandings of "Christian Perfection." On Aug. 26, the focus is on the New Testament-Pauline language of Colossians, in light of Genesis 1 and the understanding of being "made in God's image." On Sept. 2, Dr. Lodahl will continue this focus on renewal by exploring the role of the Lord's Supper as a means of grace and how it serves a transformative and renewing role in the life of the believer.
Dr. Lodahl is a noted Wesleyan scholar, teacher, and author. His interests include issues of biblical interpretation, creation theology, the interplay of science and religion, and the shared foundations of the three religions of "The Book": Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
The workshops are the first presentations of a new offering at Grace UMC, titled, "A Gracious Space." Starting at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), these workshops are designed to encourage people to attend their own morning church services and then go to the Grace church for a unique learning and sharing opportunity. There is no cost; a freewill offering basket to assist with honorarium will be available.
For more information, contact the Rev. Chuck Johnstone, pastor of Grace UMC, at 925.447.1950.
The church is located at 19901 San Ramon Blvd., San Ramon, CA 94583.
