Offering Hope to Our Neighbors
August 08, 2012
A workshop on Attracting and Connecting with Visitors takes place Saturday, Aug. 18 at First UMC of Loomis
By Dave Bunje
Circuit leader, Circuit on the Rise
Within a mile of each of our churches are scores of people yearning for a connection to a grace-filled fellowship, desiring reminders for making ethical daily choices, and hungering for grounding in the holy, which would give their lives meaning and hope.
Worried about just maintaining our own programs, we find it difficult to take time, or gear up the gumption to share the life-giving, love-filled, purpose-pointing good news of Jesus with our neighbors just down the street, and in our workplaces, shopping places, schools, and clubs.
Well, here's an opportunity to learn some techniques for reaching out to our neighbors and have your enthusiasm – and gumption – built up: The (foothills) Circuit on the Rise and Great Northern District are hosting a one-day workshop titled CATCH: Attracting and Connecting Visitors, on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. $25 per person registration fee includes lunch and snacks.
The leader is Debi Nixon, who has been with the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, near Kansas City, from its early years, and who now serves as the Executive Director of Regional Campuses and Catalyst. Being a catalyst, translating good news into a life-giving experience for those who have not yet found a home for their heart's yearnings, is what she lives tangibly, and teaches well.
The workshop will address these topics:
C larity on three important questions
A ttracting visitors in your community
T ransforming into a welcoming environment
C onnection and doing effective follow-up
H elping individuals on their journey
Download flyer and bulletin inserts here. Registration is online at http://www.cnumc.org/register through Aug. 15.
We will take reservations at the door, but can't promise lunch.
For clergy, 0.5 CEU is available in the categories of CEU in Disciple Making or Professional Competency.
You will be stimulated and encouraged by Debi's teaching, and your neighbors will be grateful. I hope you can join us on Saturday, Aug. 18.
