The Rev. Dr. Kah-Jin Jeffrey Kuan, an elder in the California-Nevada Annual Conference and dean of Drew Theological School, has been elected to serve on the University Senate of The United Methodist Church for the next quadrennium.
Kuan was nominated for the University Senate at the 2012 General Conference in Tampa, Florida, but – to the surprise of many – was edged out by another candidate.
On June 28, he shared the news that the Senate itself has elected him to the post.
"I want to thank all of you again for all your support, and I will do my best to serve the church in this important capacity," he wrote.
Cal-Nevada's new Conference Superintendent for Leadership Development, the Rev. Greg Bergquist, is among those who have extended congratulations. Bergquist said the honor is "well deserved and good for our denomination." Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar of the New Jersey Area of The UMC agreed, saying, "I am excited for you...and for the church!"
