"Church of the Resurrection really wants to help Cal-Nevada succeed in our vitalization efforts, and is sending two of its best leaders," says the Rev. Dave Bunje, in announcing leadership for next month's workshop, "Leading Beyond the Walls."
The workshop will take place at First United Methodist Church of Loomis, 6:30-9 p.m. on Friday, June 8 and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 9.
"Leading Beyond the Walls" is being offered by the Great Northern District and the "On the Rise" circuit (GN Circuit #1) in the Foothills. Its aim is to reinforce the "vital congregations" efforts each church is undertaking and to motivate local church leaders to take the next steps of implementation, according to circuit leader Bunje.
Jason Gant, the director of Church of the Resurrection Student Ministries (including the "Vibe" worship service) and Dan Entwistle, the managing executive director of the Leawood, Kansas "mega church," will bring their insight and leadership to the workshop.
Entwistle is credited with helping grow the church from a handful of people at its beginnings in 1990, to the thousands who regularly worship there now. The Rev. Adam Hamilton, who spoke at Cal-Nevada's 2011 Annual Conference Session, is senior pastor.
Key topics of the workshop will include:
- Spiritual Leadership
- Clear Purpose and Vision
- Accessible Outreach and Evangelism
- Excellent Worship and Preaching
- Care and Discipleship for the Congregation
- Strategic Planning
- The Unique Benefits of Methodism
Cost is $35. For clergy, approval is pending for one CEU in Disciple Making or Professional Competency.
For those who will be traveling some distance, Friday night accommodation with Saturday breakfast will be available in circuit members' homes, by request at registration.
"We think you and other key leaders of your congregation will find this workshop invaluable for putting your vitality goals into action," Bunje says. "Register soon!" he urges.
A one-day follow-up workshop on attracting and engaging visitors has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18. Called "CATCH," it will be led by Debi Nixon, Church of the Resurrection's "Catalyst" director.
