Breaking News - GC 2012: Restructure Plan Referred to Judicial Council

May 02, 2012

As its first item of business following a break for lunch, the 2012 General Conference referred the so-called "Plan UMC" for restructure of the Church to the Judicial Council, to determine "whether any aspect of the legislation ... is in conflict with the constitution of the Church, in particular with Article 16.8 or 16.9."

Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. of the San Francisco Area (California-Nevada Annual Conference) presided.
The Judicial Council is in Tampa, and meeting tomorrow (Thurs. May 3). It could decide the constitutionality issue then, or postpone a decision until its fall meeting.
