April 26, 2012

Sign up now to develop your Cultural Competency leadership skills at a pre-Annual Conference Session clergy workshop in Sacramento, Tuesday, June 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (the day before Annual Conference Session begins), at First United Methodist Church of Sacramento, located near the Sacramento Convention Center.

Cultural Competency is defined as the willingness and ability to shift perspectives and change behavior, depending upon the cultural/racial context – and developing it requires a spiritual journey. The goal is to become more effective witnesses for the gospel of Jesus.
The session is designed with a mixture of activities – presentations, experiential activities, small group discussions, films/videos, and individual reflections. Registration fee of $85 per workshop includes resource materials and lunch. The workshop is eligible for .75 Clergy CEUs.
Sign up today, if you would like to:
  • Become more aware of our values, our world view, and the assumptions which affect our ability to function effectively and to develop trusting relationships across cultural and racial boundaries,
  • Understand the concepts regarding cross-cultural/cross-racial interaction and be able to apply these concepts to your own ministry context,
  • Experience difference as a way to be in relationship rather than to be separated,
  • Explore adapting our behavior to be more authentically engaged,
  • Learn culturally effective communication skills, and
  • Develop your own learning/activity plan aimed at increasing cultural competence.
