Applicants Sought for the Suk-Chong Yu Religious Studies Scholarship

The Suk-Chong Yu Religious Studies Scholarship is open for applications until May 15, 2012.
The scholarship was created to honor the leadership of the Rev. Suk-Chong Yu, who served as Nevada-Sierra District Superintendent from 1999 until his retirement in June 2006. Both laity and clergy who wish to pursue religious education are eligible to apply.
A scholarship will be awarded this year and may be applied in the following categories:
- A limited scope – such as sabbaticals or a one-time instruction for training leaders, i.e. Stephen Ministry
- Seminary students – undergraduate or graduate studies
- Religious music studies
- Age-related ministry studies – children, youth, adults, seniors
- Training in mission of Social Justice
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited high school or have an equivalent degree. If applying for college, applicant must have a 3.0 GPA (or above), out of 4.0 – and for graduate school, applicant must have 3.0 GPA or above in undergraduate work.
Scholarship applications must be received in the District Office by May 15, 2012.
Applicants must provide a copy of their school transcript and three letters of recommendation and send, along with their completed Scholarship application, Part I, II and III, to: District Office, c/o Cindy Buna, P.O. Box 980250, West Sacramento, CA 95798.
The 2011 Suk-Chong Yu Religious Studies Scholarship was awarded to S. Michele Robbins. Michele is a student at Chico State University working on a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science and plans to attend Pacific School of Religion after graduation. She also is a candidate in the ordination program with The United Methodist Church. Michele states, "God has shown me that I can count on Him to be with me every step of the way."
