What is Annual Conference Session? It is worship. Fellowship. Collaborative work. Celebration. A time of learning, sharing, growing, striving, laughing and crying. And now, it is …
Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. invites you to join him on Thursday evening of ACS (June 21), for United Methodist Night at Raley Field, when the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's) take on the Fresno Grizzlies (Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants).
The event will afford several opportunities to put The United Methodist Church in the public eye, and to allow us to represent ourselves in a positive way.
Best of all, United Methodist Night will be a fundraiser for Imagine No Malaria. A portion of each ticket sale (purchased on line through a special UM link) will go directly to help defeat malaria in Africa by the year 2015. We'll be provided with an information table just inside the gates, where we'll have Imagine No Malaria materials to give away – and the message, "Text: MALARIA to: 27722 to give $10" will be shown on the matrix board, so that everyone in the ballpark has an opportunity to participate in this important cause.
We'd like all UMs to wear an Imagine No Malaria, Re-think Church, or other United Methodist T-shirt as a means of "passive advertising." And please be prepared to answer questions about The UMC and about Imagine No Malaria!
Bishop Brown will throw out the first pitch and host the traditional Bishop's Reception from a vantage point on the concourse, at the end of Section 1-A, that will afford him and those who stop by to greet him a view of the action on the field. And we have a few other things up our sleeve, too, that we'll announce soon. Suffice it to say that the River Cats and Grizzlies may not have a lock on the evening's competition!
Tickets will go on sale next week; watch for the announcement on the Conference website. Pricing will be offered according to the following levels: $10 (for lawn seating; bring your own chair or blanket), $16, $20, and $23.
Plan now to bring a crowd from your church to United Methodist Night at Raley Field in West Sacramento, Thursday, June 21! Gates open at 6:00 and the game begins at 7:05 p.m.
(Be sure you don't miss the first pitch by Bishop Brown!)
