UMs Gather for September Training on Organizational Relevance

October 12, 2011

The United Methodist Endorsing Agency (UMEA) sponsored a continuing education event, "Claiming our Organizational Value," Sept. 26-28, 2011 – where 54 pastoral counselors and chaplains (including Extension Ministers Lisa Nordlander and Mark Wendland of the California-Nevada Annual Conference) gathered for CEU training on organizational relevance, at the Lodge at Simpsonwood in the North Georgia Annual Conference.

Bishop Grant Hagiya opened the event with a presentation on "Clergy Effectiveness in Today's World." David Trickett, president of Iliff School of Theology, provided training to UMEA chaplains to strengthen their leadership skills for organizational relevance.

Lee Hayward (also from Cal-Nevada), an executive business consultant and leadership coach with Hayward Associates in California, was the third featured presenter and led the group to develop an integration process – helping participants align their work with their institution's strategic plan and position descriptions. He also wrote the curriculum for the week's small group facilitators.
