Sierra Service Project News

By Rick Eaton, Executive Director
Sierra Service Project

The Sierra Service Project has just completed a wonderfully successful summer of service! A total of 1,915 volunteers served for a week in South Los Angeles and on Indian reservations in Northern California, Arizona, and Idaho. In total, our volunteers completed 138 repair projects on 100 homes! In addition, 48 volunteers built six houses in Honduras and participated in community service projects in Guatemala.
A total of 451 youth – along with 112 adults – from 36 California-Nevada churches participated this summer. In addition, SSP's summer staff of 45 young adults included 17 young leaders from Cal-Nevada! We thank all of the Conference participants for their hard work, and commend these participating congregations for encouraging their young people to put their faith into action in this manner. (Look up SSP on Facebook to see photos posted by campers, counselors, and staff members.)
Sierra Service Project will be announcing its schedule of 2012 projects in mid-September. The schedule for the Weekend of Service program in Sacramento has been posted on our website already. For more information, call our office at 916.488.6441 or visit
