Save the Date: Caregiver Support Forum Is Sept. 21

August 04, 2011

Save the date for The Older Adult Ministry Council's Moving Forward: Caregiver Support Forum on Wednesday, September 21, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Center in West Sacramento. This timely event will address the needs of seniors, their care providers, and congregational members involved with seniors – and will provide valuable skills and strategies for helping older adults remain active, engaged, and vital participants in their congregations and broader communities.

Four workshops will be offered, each taught by an experienced facilitator or facilitators, and scheduled so that each forum attendee will have the opportunity to attend all workshops.
  • Congregational Friendly Visiting Education will include information on one-on-one at-home visiting with seniors or homebound individuals, along with ways to create and develop vibrant communion ministries and Worship on Wheels.
  • The Loss and Bereavement Guidance workshop will sensitively address loss and bereavement for both caregivers and care receivers, and also will include discussion on affordable housing options for seniors.
  • The Financial Abuse and Identity Theft Prevention workshop will provide specific advice on protecting seniors from financial exploitation.
  • Useful technologies such as Skype and the Senior Center without Walls conference class system will be presented in Technology Options for Seniors.
The deadline for registration is Monday, September 12. Contact Jackie Finley (Older Adult Ministry Council member) at 916.769.2121 or for information or to sign up.
This is a great opportunity to help make life better for many people. Plan to attend or to send several of your congregational members!
