On the evening of Sunday, May 15, three language ministries gathered together and invited their neighborhoods to join in a Pentecost-themed event. Fresno Korean Fellowship of Clovis joined the English and Hmong language ministries of Memorial United Methodist Church, also in Clovis, celebrating with an ice cream social and multicultural music festival, complete with dances from all three of the language ministries. The best part was getting to learn the dances after they were performed!
After ice cream and dancing, we headed over to the Sanctuary, where each language ministry shared a few songs representative of their worship service. We also sang hymns together, in three languages at one time; truly a Pentecost-like experience.
Part of the focus of the event was also to raise funds for Nothing But Nets and Imagine No Malaria – and together we were able to raise more than $800 to help prevent and treat malaria in Africa!
At the end of the evening, we all learned the benediction in English, Korean, Hmong, and American Sign Language. Gathering as a community and celebrating our diversity was a wonderful way to reach out to our neighbors, and make a difference in the world!
