Register Early for July Meeting of Filipino-American UMs
May 11, 2011
By Ruby Bago
Greetings in the precious name of the Lord Jesus!
The 12th Biennial Convocation of the National Association of Filipino-American United Methodists (NAFAUM) will take place July 5-8, 2011 at Campbell United Methodist Church, in Campbell, California.
The Biennial Convocation is a major undertaking of our Association. Filipino-American United Methodists in the United States and parts of Canada look to this gathering as a means of sharing their faith journey as laity and clergy, as well as congregations. This time around, our celebration will take on added meaning because it is the year in which we are preparing to mark the centenary of Filipino-American presence in the United States, and our participation in ministry within The United Methodist Church, which dates back to our beginnings as sugarcane workers in the sugarcane plantations in Hawaii.
The theme of the convocation is "Bridging the Waves, Journey to Hope," affirming the fourfold General Conference quadrennial goals (Four Areas of Focus) of: creating new spaces for new people; developing principled Christian leaders; engaging in ministry with the poor; and stamping out killer diseases of poverty by improving health globally.
I encourage everyone to register now and make hotel reservations at Biltmore Hotel-Santa Clara.
Peace and blessings!
