For most United Methodist congregations and pastors across the United States, the season of pastoral and church appointment transitions covers the months of May through July. Expectations, plans, and attachments between church members and pastors shift as a heightened sense of awareness and curiosity emerges with announced appointment changes.
Fortunately, the dynamics of organizational change and interpersonal interactions often follow consistent patterns, just as different music genres are paired with particular dance steps and patterns of movement.
The 2011 Church and Clergy Transition Workshop, sponsored by the California-Nevada Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and the Conference Council on Clergy Development, is a part of that consistent process. It is designed to assist clergy and congregational leaders (especially Staff-Parish Relations Committees, Worship Committees, and Council Leaders) as they listen for the shift in music and engage this uniquely United Methodist dance of transition.
This year's workshop will be offered on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church in Alamo, California.
Event coordinator/presenter will be the Rev. Brandon Austin, pastor of St. Paul's UMC in Manteca.
The workshop is highly recommended for clergy and churches which made a transition within the last 1-2 years, in addition to those transitioning this season.
