United Methodists will cycle the Pacific coastline again this summer, July 24-30. Sponsored in the Western Jurisdiction by the California-Pacific Annual Conference, the annual bike adventure known as the Coast Tour will travel the Oregon State-designated bike route along the ocean for nearly 400 miles.
The tour, now in its 26th year, has become a full spectrum event for ages 15 to 70+, with friends, couples, parent-teen combos, and other mixes taking part (marriages have been proposed!). Bikers carry their own gear and stay in small motels. Food comes in a variety of ways, often from local UM congregations hosting the 20-30 hungry riders.
This year's Coast Tour is an especially good introduction to cycle-touring, with beautiful views, a straight-forward route (keep the ocean on your right!) and manageable hills.
