Worship Resources for Remembering President Nelson Mandela
December 06, 2013
Christians around the world join the people of South Africa who are mourning the death today of their former leader Nelson Mandela at the age of 95.
The worship team at the General Board of Discipleship has prepared an extensive collection of resources about Mandela and his life which are available online at http://www.gbod.org/misc/remembering-nelson-mandela.
Mandela, who was baptized in the Methodist Church as a youth, became actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement in his 20s. He led a campaign of peaceful, nonviolent defiance against the racist policies of the South African government for 20 years. A year after he was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize with South African President F.W. de Klerk, Mandela was inaugurated as the nation’s first black president in 1994.
GBOD’s mission is to support annual conference and local church leaders for their task of equipping world-changing disciples. An agency of The United Methodist Church, GBOD is located at 1908 Grand Ave. in Nashville, Tenn.
