'Better Than Oberamegau' Passion Play Is in Lake County in May

April 13, 2011

Lake County invites you to the 31st annual outdoor presentation of the Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Our Lord, Jesus Christ – on the third Saturday and Sunday in May (May 21 and 22) at 4 p.m. in Lakeport, California.

The Lake County Passion Play is a spectacular experience brought to you by a cast of more than 150 people. You'll see mounted Roman soldiers sweep across the 1,000-foot stage, while sheep wander across the hillside and a powerful sound system carries the dialogue – which is faithfully drawn from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. A talented team of directors, producers, and costume designers work throughout the year to create this experience.
Some people who have seen both this play and the world-renowned Oberamegau Passion Play have even said that the Lake County version moved them more profoundly than did Oberamegau.
But, "the Passion Play is not a spectacle," according to the Rev. Shannon Kimbell-Auth, pastor of United Christian Parish in Lakeport. "Rather, it is a prayerful expression of the faith of the people involved. Men, women, and children from many denominations have come together to make this a truly ecumenical experience. The unity among the players is a visible sign of the Holy Spirit."
There is no admission fee to see the Passion Play: The price has been paid!
Attend and be inspired!
Fresh spring water will be available. For your comfort, plan to take a lawn chair or blanket with you to sit upon.
