'Word on the Street': Radical Hospitality with the Homeless Workshop
February 10, 2011
"Uh, oh! There's a homeless person. He's dirty and he scares me. What do I do?"
What can you do? Start by gaining a deeper and broader understanding of chronic homelessness and the challenges it brings by joining the Rev. Linda Kelly-Baker and Side-By-Side Ministries for the "Word on the Street": Radical Hospitality with the Homeless workshop on Thursday, March 24, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 2100 J Street, Sacramento, CA.
Explore how faith and natural compassion can make a difference through hands-on exercises and reflection.
This workshop offers practical advice to use and share when meeting the homeless stranger or welcoming the homeless at your church. Participants will acquire a clearer understanding of the diversity within the homeless community and obtain the skills needed to relate appropriately to people on the street.
The workshop is open to all! CEUs (.5) are available for appointed pastors.
A donation of $65 is requested and includes lunch and materials.
Registration deadline is Friday, March 19 and space is limited – so do register early. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the program at 9 a.m.
