There's still time to register for the Western Jurisdiction Immigration Training Event taking place in San Francisco next Saturday (Jan. 22).
"If you are interested in learning more about the work of The United Methodist Church in immigration, or how you or your church might be involved, please plan to attend [this] excellent event on January 22 right in our area," says El Camino Real District Superintendent, the Rev. Kristie Olah.
Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. says the naming of the event, "A Call to Radical Hospitality," was intentional, to call attention to the need "to learn some skills on how we can reach out to new neighbors, many of whom are immigrants … and to deal compassionately." He says the workshop can help us in our work of being disciples engaged in transforming the world.
The Rev. Brenda Vaca of La Trinidad UMC in San Jose chairs the Conference Immigration Task Force and has been involved in planning the daylong event, taking place at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt Hotel, just off Highway 101 in Burlingame.
