'We Are Wearing Our Crowns' Is Theme of 63rd Annual Jones Memorial Women's Day

October 14, 2010

"And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this." – Esther 4:14.

Join the Women of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in San Francisco in celebrating their 63rd Annual Women's Day! The theme, inspired by the Book of Esther, is We Are Wearing Our Crowns – and indeed, all women are being asked to wear their "crowns" (hats, scarves, tams, berets, turbans, tiaras, or African headwear) throughout Women's Week 2010.

The Women's Week celebration begins Monday, October 25 and culminates on Sunday, October 31 with a 10 a.m. worship service. Due to repairs underway in the Jones Memorial Sanctuary, the service will take place at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, 3200 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94118. (Fee-based parking will be available.)

Faye Washington, Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA for the greater Los Angeles area, will be the special guest speaker at the Sunday service.

"We are blessed!" organizers say. "Ms. Washington is a phenomenal Christian woman with distinguished professional and volunteer careers devoted to public service. We are looking forward to a spirit-filled worship service, featuring a dynamic speaker and outstanding music provided by the 2010 Women's Day Chorus."

You're invited to participate in as many Women's Week celebration activities as possible, including: assembly of aid baskets to the San Bruno disaster victims; a career night for young women; a mid-week Bible Study and worship service led by Jones Memorial pastor, the Rev. Staci Current; a daybreak prayer service led by Theresa Jiggetts, Jones' prayer coordinator; a film screening of the domestic violence-prevention film, Sin By Silence; and an all-day Health Summit on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Plan your trip to Women's Week activities by visiting the Jones Memorial page on the Conference website and using the handy Google Maps feature!
