Join the Immigration Task Force of the California-Nevada Annual Conference for a prayer vigil and rally in support of immigration reform – an ACS lunchtime event being held at the State Capitol, noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 17.
Meet on the south steps of the Capitol at noon to take part.
Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. will participate, as will Rev. Delle McCormick of BorderLinks in Tucson, Arizona.
McCormick will be guest speaker at a Thursday evening dinner, jointly hosted by the Methodist Federation for Social Action and Conference Board of Church and Society (of which the Immigration Task Force is a part). Immigration Reform is the issue being lifted up at this year's event.
"She is an extraordinary speaker – one of the many wonderful people we met on our recent trip [with Bishop Brown] to the U.S./Mexico border," says the Rev. Brenda Vaca, who chairs the task force.
She adds that the rally and prayer vigil is "the perfect opportunity to make a public statement on compassionate and comprehensive immigration reform as United Methodists in Cal-Nevada."
