Clergy Transition Workshop Retreat Scheduled for May 19-22
May 13, 2010
Church/Laity Transition Workshop follows in early June
Transitioning from one congregation or pastoral appointment to the next is the signature of United Methodist pastors, like few others. Learning to navigate the straits and to enjoy the flow of intertwining roles and relationships across the years becomes an art form – and, as with art, there's no substitute for knowing the tools and techniques that optimize passion-filled pastoral work in the service of Christ.
May 19-22 (Wednesday-Saturday), join your colleagues and gifted presenters in the quiet San Ramon Valley, at the San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, California for a few days of retreat, reflection, and preparation as you anticipate another appointment or as you consider prior months of a mid-year appointment.
In fact, whether or not you are transitioning this year, you will find the experience and information at this retreat to be useful.
And best of all, the retreat (lodging, food, materials, and presenters) is FREE to all transitioning clergy! What's more, Ministerial Education Fund grants (our apportionment investments at work!) make this practically free for everyone else who attends.
But time is short! So download and read through the material here, fill out the necessary forms, and make plans to attend.

One-day Church/Laity Transition Workshop scheduled
Clergy and Laity alike are partners in the periodic itinerant dance of appointment making. Metaphorically speaking, then, learning to listen to God's music as we take the steps and form the dance patterns from pastor-to-pastor and congregation-to-congregation is one faith-filled response we can make for following Christ the United Methodist way.
Church officers and interested members are encouraged to take advantage of this workshop, Saturday, June 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Manteca, California, as presenters provide participants with opportunities to consider the short- and long-term dynamics of pastoral change in churches.
Please read and complete the attached form and take several persons from your congregation with you to this event. Transition workbooks and lunch are provided to each participant.
Remember, all churches are welcome to attend this event, even those which expect no change in their pastoral staff in the coming appointment year!
Download registration form (interactive PDF – may be completed on line, printed, and mailed).
